Flying Lesson 13

Tonight was the night... After more landing practice with some great and not-so-great landings, my instructor endorsed my log book and sent me on my way. I performed two full stop landings successfully. One of the two were picture-perfect (if i don't say so myself), the other landing was adequate. The weather was mostly calm, sky was clear, and I was ready. I had been thinking about this lesson all day and I have to admit I'm just glad to get it over. Glancing over at the empty cockpit seat next to me was an exciting and emotional moment. I began these flight lessons with no experience or aviation knowledge at all, and I feel I have come very far. To get beyond flying solo means many exciting lessons in the coming weeks. We plan some additional solo landings before embarking on my first solo cross country. This is what flying is all about.

flight of plane After powering down the plane for the evening, parking it, and getting settled up with paperwork, my next order of business was to tell someone. Of course this is a rural airport and my cell phone has limited coverage. I tried to make some calls on my way out of the airport but it wasn't in the cards. I had to wait until I returned home. Speaking of home, by the time I got there I already knew that I would not feel the least bit pressured on my next lesson. My instructor tells me I will be doing some more solo landings to get more comfortable being alone in the airplane. It's hard to describe, I don't want to call it relieved but in a way that's what it feels like.
