Flying Lesson 30

Tonight is another lesson of maneuvers and check ride practicing again. You can never have too much practice. We also went over the topic of short-field takeoffs and simulated one today as well. This was new to me and we plan on heading over to an actual short field next week for some realistic practice. Once again we climbed to altitude and began practicing steep turns and numerous stalls. Some good and some bad, I was having a difficult time maintaining any sort of consistency. I was also kept on my toes tonight with many questions being asked of me while I flew the airplane. I felt like it was a preview to the oral exam on check ride day. I actually messed up a few questions so I know I need to keep reviewing my material prior to check ride day. Although I'm a bit nervous to be tested orally on the check ride day, I'm also looking forward to getting past the test and moving forward with an instrument rating next.

This flight lesson ended up to be much of a repeat of the last one. The maneuvers however could still use some work. We did numerous engine-out landings to finish up today. I made the field on every one of them today so I was pretty proud of that fact. Every one of these was truned into a go-around at the last second except of course, the last one. I feel my go-arounds are improved as well and I'm looking forward to continuing my practice sessions this week. I plan on spending aproximately an hour later this week flying solo. This week I also had to fill out an online application for my check ride over at iacra.faa.gov. This is the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application. I was required to input my experience and flying hours as well as personal information. The instructor will also have to log in and verify this application before I can receive a check ride. It was pretty simple and it checks the application for you before you submit so you can see if anything was omitted or any data incorrectly entered.
